Laney Aor series 2 100 watt

Hey there,

I'm working on a Laney Aor 100 series 2 I bought for cheap knowing there's an issue. So here it is, the amp cannot get up to loud volumes at all. Go up to maybe 1/2 volume and it refuses to get any louder but the tubes continue to get hotter and hotter. The thing is which is weird is when it's pegged at max it sometimes does this flicker to max volume very quickly and then jumps down back to the lower volume. It is red plating power tube 4. I've got no idea other than the output transformer being bad. Anyone got any experience or any ideas?

Without sufficient negative voltage, the grid will not be able to allow electrons from the cathode to the plate. I'd stick a volt meter on it to make sure you have good grid bias. (Safely!!!!)

Kurzweil K2500 renovation

I purchased this from the daughter of the original owner who passed away last year. That’s it in my profile picture and also what have to work with. It’s been standing on end in it’s road case for more than a year. The foam is completely deteriorating and I’ve got a lot of cleaning ahead of me.

Any ideas on removing deteriorating foam stuck to plastic without damaging plastic would be greatly appreciated. It’s very sticky, like a spilled soft drink. Like I said, this has been standing in this end in its road case for over a year. I don’t want to damage the plastic finish. Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Cleaning pots sustainably

Hi there,

I cleaned the pots on my Peavey VTX heritage and one of them actually ended up tearing up a gang. I have mesa boogie on the bench and I need to clean its pots but I don't want to ruin them with contact cleaner. Has anyone used Deoxit fader? I'm about to buy some.

How do I avoid this in the future?

Wires, parts, etc

I've built several amps (Fender 5f1, Gibson GA 5, Marshall 18 watt TMB, VOX AC15) and I was wondering for all of you who build or repair...what's your go to site to get replacement parts and wiring? Always looking for better stuff to build with.

AC30 C2 hum

I have an ac30 c2 from a guy from my town , he asked if i could repair it ,the master volume pot wasn't working I replace it with a 500kohm type A pot from a guitar does it matter if it was a guitar part? i mean the value its the same that the original from the ac30 c2 had, I just had to adapt the legs so they could fit , Also the amp was dropping the volume and cracking a lot i just changed the 4 el84 tubes and it appears the problem was gone but apparently now it has a hum like a 60 hz or 120 hz i noticed it but it thought it was normal until the owner told me that wasn't sounding before, what could that be so when he brings the amp back i could look into , the amp is fro…

Roland Fantom X7 stuck at demo loading screen.

I have a Roland Fantom x7 that was working fine, I opened it up to remove a stuck 1/4 inch jack crown from one of its output port and cleaned the keys after.

The keyboard boots up and freezes when it gets to the demo loading screen.

Any ideas on what the issue might be?

You may have slightly unplugged one of the cables to the main board resulting in it only half way booting, what i would recommend is reopening the keyboard and reseating all of the connectors on the main board, if that dose not fix it i would recommend doing a factory reset or trying to update the software if possible! ❤️

Repaired SUNN 200S

Hi all, Just wanted to share some photos of the internals of this rare amp. Owner said it was smoking last time he had it on but it turns out the previous tech had used wire that was too thin and it melted the solder connection after delivering a massive amount of current. Replaced the wire and it works great, this thing is an absolute unit.

Good job! Wire rating is super important! ❤️

Alesis nanobass

Nanobass board lit from the back to see any internal board layers
Nanobass board lit from the back to see any internal board layers

I recently got my old Nanobass out of storage and it was not responding to any midi data and the light was not lit up on the front panel. No obvious signs of life. I could not locate any schematics online but the device was of a vintage where it is relatively easy to figure out what the design is meant to be. (note the hand drawn schematic made from following tracks on the board and probing with the multimeter.) The were three power rails, a positive analog, negative analog, and a digital rail, and the problem was with the digital one. The way it was behaving was not making much sense, and after removing the smoothing capacitors and the linear regulator it became obvious that one of the rectifier diodes had died. Not quite a short circuit or open circuit, just "weird" when looking at the rectified si…

Great job! thats so cool you were able to get it back up and running! I also really like your light trick under the board to see the traces! very smart! ❤️

Missing resistor consequences

Hi, I recently got a soldano hot rod in a trade (what a score) buuuuuuut when I met up with the dusty ol fellow in a 7-11 carpark he mentioned that it sounded like a screw was loose and rolling around in the chassis, so I got her home popped her open and to my dismay it was a resistor (placed in series right before one of the power tubes) that has fallen off the PCB, I’m handy with the soldering iron so I’ve got no bones about attaching it back on, but I’m worried about potential damage in the rest of the circuit, I’ve got no idea how long this has been an issue for or how the amp even survived on 1 power tube

Wow! that is crazy! sorry to hear about your situation! what i would recommend is purchasing and installing a new resistor then testing the amp. if you dont experience any issues with the amp then i would roll with it. If you do experience any issues definitely send a update and ill help you troubleshoot further. Below i have linked the exact resistor you need just make sure you select 470! Hope this helps! https://www.tubedepot.com/products/2-watt-metal-oxide-power-resistor
